How do I smooth my idle? Fix some new \"issues\"

I am looking to get a little smoother idle... I have a 78' 304 CJ7 w/ Automatic about 40,000 or so on the rebuilt bored .30 over.. I have a accel coil and stock ignition module, platinium plugs, and factory distributor.. What upgrades could I go about in making the idle smoother? Ignition Modules? Coil? Wires? Plugs? I have noticed that the plugs are covered in alittle oil.. so I guess my rings are leaking are there any short cost low-term quick lubricant to fix this? If not how much am I looking for a ring job? Also looking to put a new alternator on the CJ7 who makes a good model that puts out atleast 90amps? Thanks

Re: Engine: Idle/Smooth ?

I guess some things came to mind, timing is critical for idle smoothness, and probably the most common would be to adjust your idle mixure screws at operating temp.and obviosly check for vacuum leaks, especially the egrs like to stick open a bit.
