what IS off topic??

i was just reading some interesting "off topic" stuff here..and i was thinking... why do we say it's off topic? because it isn't a jeep related question?? where does it say this forum is for technical questions?? all i see is short wheelbase jeep....now..I, for one ,believe that "jeep" is a way of life, so if your way of life is to jeep with a missile launcher under the seat...I'll read about your missle launcher...I get tired of answering how to get 68" tires under an 87 yj anyway.......

Re: what IS off topic??

I agree!!!

I need a good laugh, so once in a while when I run across a REALLY good joke, I post it.

If I went into a chemistry thread on how something or another works, you would learn something, so why not?

Like raising the submarine from the war between the states (nothing 'civil' about it), I found that really interesting, and I'm planning a trip to see it once it's on display.

Or the current thread on how to wire a outlet in you home for a welder...
Not directly a Jeep topic, but I'm sure lots of us will want to weld on our Jeeps some time or another...

I don't consider it a waste of my time if I learn something, or have a good laugh, or can help someone, no matter if the problem is directly Jeep related or not (like the welder thread, or the cutting torch threads or what ever...).

I'm not so hot on the political diatribes, but those are Jeepers, and they have their right to there opinion.
I do wish they would post the political rhetoric separate of any tech information they may have posted. I don't like having to wade through the political stuff just to try and glean the mechanical information....

If some one comes up with an effective, reasonably priced "Remove The Idiot From The Road" rocket launcher. I'd really like the see the plans!!

Re: what IS off topic??

Out of common courtesy to posters who don't wish to post or reply to topics other than Jeep vehicle specific, many use the initials "OT" or the words "off topic" to identify the posts that don't directly concern to Jeep vehicles. In that sense, those topics are...er...off topic.

My personal belief is that one may post on any subject as long as the proprietors of this BBS allow it....We must respect the right of private property, in my view.

Off Topic?? Well, if someone tried to post a porno photo involving a 1955 Olds convertable, 3 goats and a hang glider that may be pulled, but if a Jeep could be seen several hundred feet in the background with one wheel on a 6 inch tall rock ....... who knows???? Re: what IS off topic??

Imagine; if you will; a Jeep that is sitting in the middle of a HUGE sheet of white butcher paper. From this jeep are radiating lines which reach outward and which terminate in different subject areas identified by symbols, like a welder, an array of machine tools, various paint products, tires, wheels, body repair equipment, engines, transmissions, transfer cases, axles, GUNS OF COURSE, AND a picture of the lying scumbag and his lying accomplices. It SEEMS off-topic, but the lineage can all be traced back to the central symbol, which is a short-wheelbase Jeep! After all, if they outlaw guns, they'll also outlaw ANY semblence of personal independence; ESPECIALLY JEEPS; and in order to prevent the outlawing of guns, we have to kick out the scumbag and any of the lying accomplices. So you can see the "linkage" DOES connect if you stand back and visualize it. MOST topics are pertinent, unless of course they are intentional insults or intentional baiting, or some other inappropriate posting.

Re: what IS off topic??

off topic, well we all play with computers to read this jeep pages, that would be off topic or the web page to present the jeep would be off topic. If we would to stay on topic we would be like the home repair pages, very, very boring. Remember you can only talk about your jeep, no personal history, background, or welding. only wheeling and the truck but then you could not talk about wheeling because it is off topic because a toyota went too and it is not a jeep.

I like the times we get off topic. it is like the boys talking in the shop. If we played by the rules i would never know that cjdaves plays with generation equipment and that arron at team rush tolments his dog. and we all know that the only reason I,m posting is to get post points. but then that would be off topic

Re: what IS off topic??

I agree with xjy173's observations,if we post an "O.T". on the subject line,it makes it really nice for those that are looking for jeep tech only,I know I have been disapointed to click on a subject that was totally off topic, and of no interest.
but other times if its marked O.T. and looks interesting,(like this thread)I'll click on,I guess it just depends what mood one is in,if its serious jeep tech,or enjoying a relaxing sunday afternoon and rambling on ......and on......and......... my two cents.

Re: what IS off topic??

Off Topic is anything that isn't directly related to Jeeps. For instance: Guns are off-topic, but where and how to mount a gun rack in your Jeep isn't. Got it? Your potato cannon is off-topic. You exploits around town in the Jeep shooting the magnetic signs off the roof of pizza delivery cars with said cannon isn't. Likewise, adding any device to the Jeep that helps you find proper trajectories for a given shot load is completely 100% on topic
