chevy 5 speed?

What chevy speed would be mated to a 250 six? I seen an add in the local paper that has a 250/fivespeed/transfercase combination for sale?

Re: chevy 5 speed?

I'm not an expert on Chevy transmissions. Here is what I think. The Chevy full size pickup with an inline 6 cylinder 250 cubic inch engine was discontinued in the mid 80's. I'm thinking 1984. To the best of my knowledge, the 4.3 liter (262 cubic inch) V6 was introduced into the full size GM pickups starting in 1985. To the best of my knowledge, the New Venture (NV) 4500 5 speed was not an option for the full size GM pickups till 85. I would guess that maybe there is some confusion as to what year and engine size they have parts to sell? I'm not sure.

I'm just wondering if they have a 5 speed transmission and transfer case from a S-10. Some of the early 80's S-10 Blazers and S-10 pickups had 2.8 liter (173 cubic inch) V6 engines with 5 speed transmission.

Re: chevy 5 speed?

The 250 Chevy six has the same bellhousing pattern as a smallblock V8, so any 5 speed that fits the V8s could be attached to it. I'd go look at it, just in case it's a NV4500.

Re: chevy 5 speed?

Out of a curiousity i gave the add a call. Its a 78 with a four speed with the granny gear. Not bad he wants 200 for the whole thing, truck and all. I'm thinking its a sm465, wouldn't be bad, but then have to spend 500 bucks on some adapter. He does know where there are a half a dozen jeeps layin around so I quess I'm going to have to make a road trip. later ken

Re: chevy 5 speed?

I was kinda bummed when I found out it was a 4 speed. But I got super pumped when he told his buddy had an old cj with the creeper four speed that I could pick up for cheap. Like 200 bucks for the WHOLE jeep. This sucks because the earliest I can get up there is next weekend. later ken
