Looks real good. One question. How will you tie in the hub to the angle iron?

Re: $55 Super Duty Swing Away Tire Carrier Is Done

thats a sweet machining job on that trailer hub, but im curious about your 10 grade 8 bolts to hole to a sheetmetal crossmember that is tack welded to the frame?

you could have a hundred grade 8 bolts, and it wouldnt be a bit stronger than the welds joining hte rearcrossmember and the frame

if it overlaps the frame then thats cool no problem!

Id try to add some flat stock 3/16 or 1/4 perpindiciular to the angle iron, either bolted or welded to the frame for a little added strength.

its a very nice design otherwise! just look for hte weakest link

i threw some angle iron on my rear bumper.. welded everything i could.. to the cross member.. frame what have you.. then i torched a hole thru it and the cross member.. put a 2" reciever hook thru it.. and welded it in.. then put some flat stock behind the cross member.. and welded that in..

in a million years.. some alien will find it... still welded together..

nice job! i have thought of this idea before. i didn't use it on mine because my jeep has no tail gate. i like it though and that hub assy sould be plenty stong.

Re: $55 Super Duty Swing Away Tire Carrier Is Done

I bought a set off currie rear bumper braces last year. They mount on the inside and outside, on both sides of the frame, using 1/2 bolts and crush sleeves. They then have bolt holes that line up with the predrilled holes in the rear cross member. I figure if the tow bar comes off the frame, the frame is coming off with it. I think they are Currie's best kept secret.

I like yours better than mine but all I had in mine was a couple bolts and paint. That spindle trick looks good, I got a old boat trailer that going to be losing some parts.

Thats pretty damn great!! But, now I am pissed at you. My Tomkin set-up is already starting to sag and the poly bushings sound like a goat in heat. All joking aside, that is one fine piece of engineering. Chad
