nv3550 in 2000 tj

remember i was sniveling about my 200 tj popping out of 1st gear under acceleration?? well i took in in today and they were surprised because there was a guy in for the same thing 2 weeks earlier. The dealership called dodge and asked what to do, and they ordered me a NEW tranny...and clutch assembly..hmmm this warranty thing is nice... but.....
remember also his jeep popped out of 1st when it was parked and rolled into a tree...me(and insurance) paid for the repair..should i wait until my jeep gets the new tranny and then try to get dodge to foot some of the bill?? or should i hit them with it now?

Re: nv3550 in 2000 tj

I'd hit them now. If they're willing to replace the tranny and not even put up a fight, something's going on. Hit them now before they decide it's the air in the tires being the wrong pressure (can you say Firestone?) or something equally as ridiculus.

Be leery of doing that. They might want to know about the emergency brake. If that wasn't set then you might not have a claim.

I may not like what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Re: nv3550 in 2000 tj

The factory field engineer we had at our dealership said that on early build TJ NV3550s, there may have been excess end play allowing it to pop out of first under a load. The trans replacement should fix it. He also says that a replacement redesigned clutch disc and a different shift handle with better dampening are in the works to address some of the noise complaints we get with these transmissions.

You'd better have a Police report, if you go after Daimler /Chrysler for accident damage. Be prepared for a fight!

Re: nv3550 in 2000 tj

Our rep said that it was from some young kid that was de-burring the gears too much at the factory. We have had about 15 replacements already. One of them would only work in 4 th gear, and after he told me to tear down, I discovered that there was no teeth left on both the input gear and the cluster shaft. They sent that core back, and later reported that the end of the case was mis-aligned during machining. I don't really understand, as the nv-3500 never seemed to have any of these problems, except for some neutral noises. And all of the replacements seem to work fine.

Re: nv3550 in 2000 tj

I guess Im one of the lucky ones... my NV3550 has performed flawlessly since the day I brought it home (last Nov 4th).

It was reported on Jeepsunlimited that there will be two factory TSB's issued on this tranny in the coming weeks.
