Reasonable price for 84 CJ-7 Renegade

I saw a 84 CJ-7 Renegade today. The Body was in really good condition from what I could see when I drove by. It had a hard top that seemed to be in good shape also. I'm going to call on it tomorrow. What should i expect for a price? What should I offer for it? Thanks...Kyle

Re: Reasonable price for 84 CJ-7 Renegade

Its really hard to say, but if the body is as good as it appears... Including body mounts as well, and all the other key rust out spots... I would say if its a straight six that runs well I would except paying between 2,500 minium whereas I around 5,000 average. Maybe even higher though. I wouldn't pay anymore then the 5,000 even 5 is a little steep. CHECK IT OVER THOUROGHLY

Re: Reasonable price for 84 CJ-7 Renegade

Kyle, it really depends on what it has done to it.
You said it looked good when you drove by.
Does this mean you just looked at it from the road?
You need to get a good close look at it.
Especially look at the frame and check for rust on it thoroughly.
Some might say the frame is the most important part of the vehicle.

If everything is as good as you said it is, and in stock condition, then I would offer $3,000 and see where it goes from there.
Don't offer before the guy tells you a price, because he could have it set below your offering price, and you would not want to pay more than you have to.
If it has mods on it, then get the guy to show you receipts for the work done to it.
If he has done it himself I don't know that I would trust the workmanship unless you know the guy and how he works.
Hope this helps, and doesn't cause you any trouble.

It looks all stock to me. I think the rims are stock too.I'm going to try and stop and check it out tomorrow if I have time. I don't know too much about the 84s I've spent all my time reasearching my 79. What were good and bad points about 84. I think they changed stuff in 80 or 81 not sure though.

There also may be some variation in price because of where you live a jeep with no rust in Ohio will ussually bring a higher price than the samejeep in the southwest.

Re: Reasonable price for 84 CJ-7 Renegade

Its worth what ever your willing to pay. I paid $2300 for my 84 CJ. It was in bad shape and barely ran. I'm in the process of completely rebuilding it. The only thing I kept was the frame and the body. The real costs on a Jeep starts after you buy it! I've been working on mine for over a year or has it been two, I've lost count! To date I have put at least $20,000 in mine, and it's still not done. If you buy any vehicle that old you will have to put money and time into it. I wouldn't trade mine for anything. It has been a great experience and I would recommend it highly.
