[OT] Martial Arts

Since the mention of martial arts has come up a few times here, I thought I would ask..........

Who here practices, and what do you practice?

Me: Hung Fut kung fu (with dablings in various other northern and southern kung fu and Tai Chi etc..)

I've never really checked the arts out on the 'net, anyone have any good URLs?

Re: [OT] Martial Arts

I started taekwondo when i was 9 (im 20 now)...got a high blue belt in that.....

then i started taking shotokan karate....i didnt like that at all...

so following my brother and sister, i started kung fu last year....

i started doing southern white tiger...but the teacher was crazy and apparently learned from video tapes...so i quit that class REALLY quick...

then i found a good teacher of Southern mantis..who in troduced me to his friend a Southern five Animal teacher...so i started taking both of those.....i learned some great stuff there.....

but then i moved....and now i am in the same class as my brother and sister...learning Northern Shoalin Long Fist under Sifu Joe Cervera.....thats in wheaton IL...west of chicago

Being part Irish and part Italian, I practice the lost art of Uck U. It consists mostly of head butting then kicking the guy on the ground. Sparing is tough.

Re: [OT] Martial Arts

I took Brazilian Ji-Jitsu (also called grappling) for 2 years and it was great. I also practice bashing thiefs with baseball bats if they are near my rig.

Jeep Head, damn thats funny!

A buddy who took some type of martial art years ago, I never could pronounce but it sounded like "Thai suck you", so you know how much fun we had taunting him with that!

Re: [OT] Martial Arts

My cousin is teaching me Arnis (ahr-Nees). There are very few people who even know what it is, he is one of the last high ranked people. It is that really dang fast stick-fighting, if you are wondering. A match lasts about 2 seconds and ends with someone bleeding or hobbling off the mat. Awesome fun!

Re: [OT] Martial Arts

Isn't Arnis a Philipino art (or from somewhere around there)? I have heard of it, just can't remember where it originates from. VERY effective defence if you have a couple sticks on ya.

Started Tae Kwan Do about a year ago (just an old dog trying to learn some new tricks)
