If you had your own car company........

Imagine the power you'd hold if you were in charge of GM, Chrysler, or Ford. You could dictate the design of future 4x4's. Think of the possibilities. Here's mine:

A series of pickups & utilities basically the size of S-10's or maybe a bit bigger. Dana 44 front & rear standard, with upgrades to 60 at both ends possible. NV4600 & 4L80E the only trannies available. Gear-driven transfer case with 4:1 low range optional. 315/75R16 tires as a factory option. Vortec 4.3, 4800, & 6000 (the latter being available as 8600 GVWR with 60 front/rear only) as your engine choices. Leaf-sprung rear suspension & coil front standard. Etc, etc.

Re: If you had your own car company........

I would keep ever thing you mentioned but for me it would have to be old jeep style in as much as no carpet ,removeable doors, soft top, cb,tire carrier and racks like CJ8mondays,factory installed winch, tow hooks front and back,on board air and welder.Heck if we keep going there won't be nothin left to do to these rigs.

Yeah, you definitely want to retain the ability to use a firehose both inside & out!

I know I'm going to take flak for this, but...
Have you really looked at the new Aztec?

It's an object lesson in out of the box thinking!
A friend of ours was here over the weekend, and he has the new all wheel drive version, and it is GREAT!
There were tons of really bright people in on that one!!
Hope it catches on before GM decides to kill the project, like they have a habit of doing.

If only it weren't so damn ugly? I've heard nothing but good raves on the way the inside works, but it's as if they tried to screw up the exterior.

Re: If you had your own car company........

I agree with the ugly part, but so was the jeep when it rolled out.
So was the new ford trucks when they rolled out.
So were the new Dodge trucks when they were introduced.

Maybe they will do better with the aesthetics next year, but I'm not holding my breath...

The running gear has to be seen to be believed!
All wheel drive, and one tight package!
They drive well, handle well, and I can attest they do sand hills as well as any stock CJ!

They are ugly, but once you get past that, they have a lot of ideas I wish I thought of!
Pretty cool. Hope they make a make Jeep type vehicle with the same features and drive train.
