Can Hammerite be painted over?

After reading all the posts on the BBS I decided to go with Hammerite instead of POR 15 for my frame and underbody. I went hunting for some today and the only store in town to carry it was ACE hardware and they had discontinued it. All that was on the shelf was brown and red. Can you paint over the Hammerite? I was looking for black. If painting it is fine then I'll just get the brown and put a topcoat of black paint over it. If not does anyone know where I can get some thru mail order or over the internet?

Thanks,
Jeff

I just used hammerite to coat the frame, inside of tub, and dash panel

I orderd quart cans from my local hardware store (True Value)at about $12 a can. The stuff will take a while to cure properly. If you topcoat with another color it will work fine.. But remember that if you topcoat before the Hammerite fully cures the topcoat will interfear with curing. Also you want to make sure the topcoat would not chemically interact poorly with the undercoat.

Re: Can Hammerite be painted over?

Topcoat it after it's fully cured like LEVE said. I allowed mine to cure (2 months) and topcoated it with Truck and Bed Coating from Duplicolor. The Duplicolor T&BC will come off occasionally when scraped, but the Hammerite, bieng a different color, will show through and you can easily recoat it.
