ALL of the 'lock-in, and lock-out' type of hubs were aftermarket, from WWII, up through at least the early 1970's. ALL early Jeeps, either military, CJ, wagons, or pickups, came from the factory with a 'flange', that was definitely 'locked', all the time. Those 'dual-lever' hubs you describe, are Dual-o-matics, just one of numerous hubs available at the time. They originally had a Dual-o-matic label, or sometimes a Sears label, as they were also sold by Sears. All of these hubs were installed, either by the dealer, or by the owner.
BTW, I might be interested in the 53 wagon frame...
