Help with Steering Shaft Question

Are the steering shafts the same in CJ's with power steering as ones without?
I have manual steering and need to replace the lower steering shaft coupler, but I am upgrading to power in the near future and dont want to put money in this shaft if I have to replace it when I convert to power. Thanks.

Re: Help with Steering Shaft Question

As you said, the lower steering shaft coupler is a different spline on the power steering as compared to the manual steering, but the upper coupler and the shaft itself are the same.

Measure once, cut twice...or is that the other way around?

Re: Help with Steering Shaft Question

The CJ's have different sized couplers for manual and power steering. I converted mine to power and used a steering box from a '79 Wagoneer. To my surprise, it used the same size coupler as my old manual box!
