CJ 304 V8 popping?

Guys,

I was on my way to go wheeling yesterday with our club and it started to make a popping sound out of the carb. It sounded like what it would sound like when a push rod wasn't seated on a lifter right. The Oil pressure was all over the place. I got it back home and ended up riding with someone and when we came back I started it up again. Everything was fine. Nothing wrong. I warmed it up and drove it for a while last night and no problems.

What could it have been?

On our last camping trip a guy had to pull his plugs cause he needed to remove some h20 from the motor. When he put everthing back, he messed up the plug wires. It was making the same sound. Once he put the wires on correctly it was fine.

I am wondering if maybe I have a messed up plug wire and it was touching the header or something and screwing it up??

I am going to take another look at it tonight.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: CJ 304 V8 popping?

Could water in the distributer have caused this. Whenever an unexplained phenomina happens, and then goes away(in my jeep), I blame it on water, which evaporates over time....

Just a suggestion.
