buying YJ - need advise

I'm looking at buying 1991-1995 YJ with 6cyl. i don't really care if it has other options. i need advise on what to look out for. what are the most troublesome spots on those vehicles? what milage do you people get before you need to have major work done on engine, transmission?
something else i'd want to have on my Jeep?

thanks,
denis - (soon to be a proud owner of a Jeep )

Re: buying YJ - need advise

I think the 91-95 YJ with 6cyl could go forever (at least 200k) if properly cared for. I've noticed a few 6 cyls with leaky rear seals. With a Jeep, you want to look real close for signs of abuse and neglect. Your probably more likely to have problems because of the way it was taken care of.

lower mileage the better!
look under for signs of leaks and 4wd rock scars.
look under for rust.
i would look for closest to stock as well posted by most.
play it smart and don't over pay. hard earned cash not easy to come by!
6 cly a must!
have fun

Re: buying YJ - need advise

SO far everyone has had good advice

Deffinently get the 5pd

close to stock (dont want anyone else mistakes)

Milage really doesn't matter, mine has 168K miles, motor runs awesome, never done any major work to it.

You look for cars about like i do, my requirement list for my wrangler went, fuel injected 6cyl, 5spd... i knew i could work with that to end up with what i wanted, i very capable, 4wd machine.

Good luck
BJ

Of course it's hard, that's the point!!! If i wanted easy, i'd drive on the freeway.
FJ???? Does that stand for FAKE JEEP???
