chrokee auto in a tj?

i was riding in a friends cherokee(99) the other day and i noticed that he has a 4 speed auto... what would it take to get one of them into a tj? would it bolt to the np231?

Probably just a P.C.M. and a wiring harness. T.J.'s come with the same auto as an option. It should just bolt in and wire up.

Re: chrokee auto in a tj?

Hey Chris, somebody asked that same question a few weeks ago. I was thinking the same thing because of the four speed auto of the xj. I think the replies about the xj's auto weren't too favorable. Do a search and see what you come up with. BTW, we aren't gonna keep my 95. I'm just gonna get a 2000 Sahara. Once the settlement comes in it'll get really built. Ya got time.

I may not like what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Re: chrokee auto in a tj?

its an Asin Warner 4, itll go 200K miles in a stock XJ with proper fluid changes, it has a pretty good 1st gear, and OD.

there are to versions
one bolts to 23 spline New Process transfercase pattern ( Np 208, 242, 231,dana 300)
the other is an odd spline variant from the mid 80s I think.

its very good tranny for an XJ.

But I would speculate its a light duty unit and would last as such if used with large tires, its also pretty expensive to rebuild.
