New cj-7

Well its new to me ,,, Its a 84 CJ-7 with the stock 6 banger,,,Now heres where it gets joicy,,, I drove it home & it ran great,,, Aleast when I could figure out the 5 speed with a 8ball shifter knob on it in the dark.. Butt i only had to drive it 10 miles or so ,,,Well the valve cover leaked real bad & I took off the cover half the bolta were gone ,,, got a new rubber cork gasket & went to put it back on & found out the bolts had been broken off,, way to go PO,,,,,So this thing sat with the hood up 2 inchs though a couple big storms with the valve cover off,,,So I had to drill out & tap for Helli-coils 5 bolts ,, decided to fire it up tp see if it was leaking & run the battery down after 5 or 6 trys cranking on it ,,so I decided to do the oil change & tune up and try it another weekend,, & when I pulled the filter off it was a creamy black slushy mess,, So Im thinking water most have gotten into when the hood wasnt down all the way ,, Whats your suggestions on this motor,,, Can I just change out the oil & maybe pull the the dist & turn the oil pump by hand with a drill to pree lube it & change it again to make sure...?????

Oh yeah i forgot to tell you all this is being done outdoors...No Garage

You probably won't hurt a thing if you just change oil and filter and fire it up, but your idea of spinning the pump is even better. Maybe put cheap oil in it, and some alcohol in the oil. Spin the pump long enough to circulate the mix throughout. Then drain, change filter again, and refill. Then do another change in fifty miles or so.

That's a shame you had to Helicoil those cover screws. Did you try a left-handed drill first? They should have come out easily unless the PO put in longer screws and they bottomed out.

And this thread is worthless without pictures.
