wrangler fuel tank(w/ conv) into a cj

will it work? have heard a couple different stories about the fuel pump being in the tank or not. i realize that the filler is on the driver's side, which is ok, i will be mounting it "tj" style due to recessed tail lights.

yeah, thanks.
will be looking for a yj roll bar definitely.

about the tank...
is it conversion-able to 20 gal? according to obi-wan's site, those years were not.
but i am hearing that after 91 or something, the pump is in the tank and will push way too much fuel for a carb'd engine(304 or 306)

No, the tank is not convertable to 20 gallons, but the newer tank that is convertable will not fit between your frame rails. The older tank is basically a mirror image of the 15 gallon CJ tank and I'm 99% certain that the pickup/sender assembly from a CJ will fit it with no problems...uses the same lock-ring setup and all.

Been there, done it. The 15 gallon YJ tank will only work IF it doesn't have the fuel pump in the tank. If it has the fuel pump in the tank the lock ring, gasket holder thingy will not fit the fuel pump tank. (too small, the YJ tank has a bigger hole for the electric fuel pump to fit down in it) I have in my CJ right now with a 1991 YJ tank w/the high pressure pump from a cherokee in there for my mopar mpi kit and it works like a champ. Later.

I'm using a tank and sender I bought from 4WDHardware advertised as a replacement for a "87-90 YJ with 2.5L, TBI, 4-cyl". This tank has the 3-1/8" hole in it. I too was told there is a 15 gal steel TBI YJ tank and sender that was the same size as the CJ's but two dealers I talked to couldn't confirm this.
