bad blood between this forum and partsmike forum

I have read some posts over the past few weeks and there seems to be a little bickering between the two forums. Are things
that bad?

Re: bad blood between this forum and partsmike forum

There's only one place to really learn anything worthwhile and that's here.
Linking any other forum to this place is already giving them too much credit.
Parts Mike and all the other wannabe forums, SUCK, and I ain't afraid to say it!!!

Re: bad blood between this forum and partsmike forum

I would hardly call Parts Mike a 'wannabe' forum. He has some very good info and
parts available and is always helpful both on the net and in person.
That said, this forum is superior, without a doubt. I just wish TR had posted his
upgrade before I installed my junkyard-parts HEI.

Re: bad blood between this forum and partsmike forum

So whats stopping you from doing the TR upgrade?
If you were to do all your shopping at the junkyard for parts it would total about $10!!
Then you could really have an informed opinion.

Re: bad blood between this forum and partsmike forum

Quality of the forums depend on the people the frequent them, the 2 most obvious differences between PartsMike and this forum is the structure, PartsMike being the old type of forum which I might add, this forum use to be almost the exact same. Secondly the PM forum is a general question/answer forum where this one is Jeep specific. I prefer this one simply because I don't care to read about other types of vehicles (though sometimes it may apply to me anyway) and this forum is much busier. But that doesn't make the information on PMs worth any less.

I know that some readers frequent both forums, (Jeepskate use to, I dunno if he still does, I haven't been over to PMs in a while) and I think it would be a mistake for anyone to discount the value of the information from either forum cause someone thinks "one is better then the other"

I think it would be stretching it to say anything resembling "bad blood" exists between the two forums. I go over there from time to time, and except for some negative comments about the TR upgrade early on, there is little or NO mention of this forum on the PM page. Mike has a great page over there, and I am continually amazed at how knowledgeable he is about the whole family of off-road vehicles. Personally, I prefer this format, but his is OK too; easy to use and easy to scan. I have met some great Jeep guys on the PM forum who have given me some very valuable info AND even some free parts for upgrades. If there was any shortcoming on the PM forum, I would say it is in the area of parts purchase. I have tried several time to buy parts from PM and never could get a response.

In any group of people your going to have individuals who cant get along, its as sure as gravity. But just as sure most will get along if left to communicate. As soon as you have more have more than one person in a room, then your going to have differences of opinion. I supposse if you are so knowledgeable that you basicly know everything, then you can quit listening and consequently learning. But just remember those who think they know everything, really piss off those of us who do know everything hehehe. Later,

I frequent the PM board, but almost never post over there. I used to be a "regular", but kept getting slammed all the time, so I felt it wasn't worth it. Their board seems much less "controlled" than this one. It had gotten so bad, I started using "Scrammando" rather than "JEEPN" because no matter what I posted, I was slammed. Who needs it? PM is a great guy, and there is a lot to learn over there as well, not as much as here, and there are also people seeking help just like here. I also noticed they don't go into detail much, just litte blurbs for responses. They seem to have a lot more attitude over there.

Re: bad blood between this forum and partsmike forum

The Parts Mike site was created to help Mike sell parts while helping folks with their 4 x4 questions. This concept is a good one for him and he has helped plenty of folks including myself.
There are too many questions posted for Mike to answer so he will pick and choose depending on how much time he has, if he has a pat answer, and especially if the answer will lead to a sale. This is his living, afterall.
His answers tend to be brief and usually less complete than desired.
He can't be expected to answer all the questions single handed and unforunately most questions remain unreplied to both by him and by the forum's members because the members usually are less experinced.
I know of several people who in the past posted regularly to the forum but they, like myself, grew tired of answering the same newbie questions over and over again. This was the main reason why I wrote the CJ Gauge and Sender Diagnostics article.
Mike is a good guy and I have sucessfully bought parts from him, though he has been known to be unresponsive to problems at times from reports I have heard in the past.
The questions there just don't get the range, quantity and quality of responses as they do here.
One can learn plenty at Mike's by keeping and eye on this site though.
Especially in the areas where Mike is a true expert and specialist.
His knowledge in smog controll devices, axels, hydraulic clutch conversion,
TC & tranny adapters and other specialtys is rarely unequalled.
Mike may be slightly jealous of the volume and popularity difference between these two forms (naturally) and this may occasionaly show in his and it's members posts. I know of no hard core or truly bad blood. Mike has ocasionally refered to this Off-Road as the "other" forum which is not surprising or bad.

Re: bad blood between this forum and partsmike forum

I did alot of reading on PM's forum until I found this one. The info here is, as stated earlier, more specific to what I'm doing, the answers are more in-depth and generally more helpful. Plus there's some pretty interesting people and opinions here.
