best front dana 44 to swap into a 76-86 CJ

What would be the best front end to swap into the front of a CJ? I am thinking a late 70's cherokee and swapping over to ford rotors
and hubs. Ideas?

S.O.A. or S.U.A. ? Cut or uncut? How wide do you want them?

if you can find a NARROW track Cherokee that would be great! ( they are pretty uncommon), the more common model 17 Widetrack Cherokee ( easily distinguished by fender flares) will be much too wide for a CJ.

but wagoneers in the late 70s are VERY common, but get a 74-77 ( I think) to get the flat top knuckles in case you ever want to go high clearance steering..

Im doing it right now for my CJ5

H8Monday is doing it right now ( although much further along than I) also to his YJ with a wagoneer post 1980 front axles.

77 CJ5, in a bunch of sanded and primered pieces

Yeah I was going to work on the steering this weekend, but I have to work the crews this weekend to complete an excelerated critical path portion of the project,(We were just cruising along ahead of schedule at the start of the week, now they want it done way sooner,,,,can you say "BONUS"). Anyway I think the crew would mutiny if I didnt put in the time with them. I think ill have one of the structural steel guys, weld some joints on my new rack system though,,aahhhhh the perks. Couple of more weeks till swap. Then Ill have a swell D30,4.56,warn hubs,ARB,SOA/SUA perches, for sale. Has fresh U joints(rarley over 2 weeks old) and has only been used to go to the grocery store, hmmmm, yeah sure only to the store. Later,

i would go with the wagoneer axles. if you go spring over.. and dont cut them down.. you dont have to turn the knuckles.. since they come with +6 degrees of caster.. but they are 6 lug.. i am just putting dana 30 outer axle shafts and hubs on mine.. later when i get some cash.. will put the warn stuff on it..
got my detriots in this week.. man was i lucky.. took about 30 minutes for both.. shimming and measureing.. that was toooo easy.. .. something really bad is going to happen soon.. cause nothing is that easy on a jeep..
