roll bar padding

Does anyone know of a place I can get inexpensive roll bar padding for a Jeep factory "sport bar"? All the hardware stores I've been to sell pipe insulation but it only fits up to 1.5" pipe. My cage is 2.25" on the front portion and the factory portion is I believe 2.5". All the kits I have seen are like $100 and I'm too damn cheap to pay that much for foam. Thanks for any help.

Re: roll bar padding

After checking with Home Depot and Home Base to no avail, I found a plumbing supply in the yellow pages. They had all types of pipe insulation in the sizes we require for the factory bars. Cost was $20.00 and I used zip ties to hold it in place until I figure out what to cover it with.

My other vehicle is an Aircraft Carrier.

Have to get away from hdwe. stores. You need a plumbing supply house. I'm sure they are around wherever you live. I think the name brand is "Araflex" or something along those lines. Good Luck.

Re: roll bar padding

Summit has two types of roll bar padding, both of which are for l 3/4" OD bars. I too am looking for padding for a larger (2") diameter bar. Have a concern that the plumbing material (also available from A/C supply houses) will break down rapidly when exposed to sun (ultraviolet). Anybody with other ideas?

Re: roll bar padding

See 4wheelparts http://www.4wheelparts.com/
They sell padding in 6' sticks for about 6.00 per.
This is really nice padding, thick and rubberized not foamy.

Re: roll bar padding

You can also go to Wal-mart or other discount store and get a closed cell foam sleeping mat and cut it into strips the proper width. I've seen the mats for $5 to $6 and they are a good, high density foam that doesn't soak up water, and gives good protection and last for years. I have had mine in for at least 5 or 6 years with no deterioration. I took the time to punch holes along the edge and lace them on with some nylon cord but you can tape them or use wire ties also.

Re: roll bar padding

The web site http://www.4wheelparts.com actually does not show the padding but 4wheelparts sells the padding, Smittybilt makes it you can see it at http://www.smittybiltinc.com/product...cessories.html

Also see http://www.off-road.com/~lhsoo/yj-faq/yj-faq.htm

Good Luck
