20 gal poly tank - vents needed

I have the 20 gal fuel tank in my CJ5. Apparently one of the vents in the top of the tank is leaking. Is it possible to buy or rebuild these things?

Really it just seems as if the grommet is leaking around the vent. I think if I could replace the grommet I'd probably be good to go. But I'd like to KNOW that I've fixed the problem and put the tank back in the Jeep and be done with it.

So where can I buy the grommets, and/or the vents in the top of the tank?

Those are off-the-shelf parts used on more than just Jeeps. Go to a recycle yard you can walk and you may find them; that's what I did. It took a while; $2 later I walked out with two that fit like a glove, including the grommets.

Wanna take a walk for me??........

I'll give it a try this weekend, but there aren't many "walking" recycle yards around any more. The one that I like to frequent is an LKQ yard now, and they like to pull all the fuel tanks before putting the cars in the yard.....

maybe I'll get lucky?

Thanks for the tip!

Do they look like the ones in a 20 gallon YJ tank? I have several "walkers" near my home 20, if you can post a picture, don't want to get the wrong thing. I'll go look for you, but I'd like to be sure of what I'm getting and I usually get most of my stuff for free anyway. They pull the tanks now cause there's gold in them there tanks, and I've seen the employees filling their motor vehicles every day if I'm there.

I don't know what a YJ tank looks like.....

Here is a pic I stole from one of Teamrush's posts..... my tank looks just like this.....is that helpful enough? Or do you need pics of the vents themselves?

Now that I look at that pic, he has the vents run together without an outlet. Doesn't that seem like it's going to hold pressure? Maybe I should hook mine together while I have it out?

The pic as shown is missing the Y that takes the vent to the charcoal canister.

This is what mine looks like....

Yep thats the same as a YJ tank but to be a vent it has to vent some where, mine and all the ones that I've seen have a plastic "Y" connection that directs the fumes to the charcoal canister. I'll have a look see around here and see what I can find.
