This was Yesterdays Jeep project...
Some maintinance on the old Carter BBD.
The complaint by owner was,
Won't Idle Below 1,500 RPM and carb linkage 'Sticks'."
Seems they don't care for things too much when you flood really liquid mud over the carb and it gets into the vents!
The top part of the carb where the needle controls was just as bad or worse, but I didn't get pictures of that.
The idle needle passages were COMPLETELY blocked,
The idle fuel passage from float bowl to idle needles was COMPLETELY blocked,
And the PO Had used double, triple and in one case Quadruple gaskets on parts of the carb!
But this was the biggest problem!
The computer was removed, but the stock distributor with 'Retard' built into the reluctor was still in the vehicle, so that was a pain in the azz.
Had to realign the reluctor so the rotor phasing was in the same zip code as the reluctor!
Now it sets and idles at around 600 RPM without problems and starts right up!
Still getting a popping out of the #6 hole down through the pipes, and according to the vacuum gauge and compression tester, it's valves.
I'm betting this thing has a bent pushrod, rocker arm or both, but I'll have to wait until this afternoon to check that out!
(needs a valve cover gasket anyway!)
