Semi O/T, Liberty towing ability

A co-worker wants to know if she could tow a 22' travel trailer with a Jeep Liberty. She's talking about a long trip, so I told her, I thought it was a poor idea. Your thoughts?

You're too kind. It's an absolutely lousy, terrible idea.

Tell her to consult the owner's manual for the Liberty towing capacity & GVW limit, and the trailer manufacturer for its weight. Then add passengers, food, clothes, water & other stuff that goes into the trailer. My guess is that she would be 50% over the limit. But that's just a guess.

I wouldn't use a Liberty to tow a 22' trailer more than across the parking lot. Empty.

EVERYTHING's easy for the guy who doesn't have to do it.

She was wanting to let two older ladies rest in trailer when they felt like it as they were driving down the highway
I saw in my mind visions of lost or wrecked trailers on four lanes, some scattered for about a quarter mile
I told her to rent a comfy car or van and get a room when tired.
Better yet find a cheap flight, then rent a car. Marathon road trips are for when you're young and dumb.

Where do people get these ideas? I hate to think there are people so used to cars being safe, they think anything that can go on a road is safe in every way.
