Ill fitting doors? Not so much!

Some time ago, I posted a thread asking for help for "ill fitting doors" on a fiberglass body. You folks had a lot of fine suggestions, and for them please accept my appreciation. It's amazing how many there were from a couple crappy pictures.

I used two of your suggestions with some success. I shimmed the upper and lower hinges out and moved the striker pin in. To shim the upper hinge I cut off the corresponding section of my old hinges and slid them underneath. I tried the same thing on the lower hinge but it was too thick. So, to shim the lower hinge I used some sheet metal (about 1/16" thick).

I thought I'd pass this along in case anyone else could benefit.

Now that you have found how much adjustment is needed with the shims, you need to bend the hinges and remove the shims.

Lay the door side of the hinge on a block of wood and thump on it where the arrow is shown until you remove enough bend to get the proper fit.

I assume these are stainless hinges. If they are chrome, you probably donít want to change it because the chrome will crack and peel.
