OT- Subaru alarm still not shut off

How do you turn off alarm?
turned it on with the remote, now the remote doesn't work (changed battery), got the door unlocked with the key, but the alarm is still on!! Disconnected battery over night but alarm still on. Disconnected horn but ignition still dead using the key.
Don't have a diagram to look for a relay or fuse ...... if that would do it.

Outback wagon 2000

50 miles to the dealer

Any other forums?
thanks

If it is like my saturn was, you have to put the key in the ignition and turn it on.

I'm not with the car, doing this over the phone. So bare with me.

.... "you have to put the key in the ignition and turn it on." ?????

put key into igniton and turn it on (ignition on or start motor?) or with the remote? He is telling me the motor will not start or turn over and if he connects the horn ..... the alarm starts. He isn't very mechanical (somewhere between zero & not much)

#1. Door lock switch on drivers side IS NOT turning the alarm off...
(There is usually a reason people rely on the remote, and the drives door lock switch is usually the first in the system to go, since it gets the most use locking and unlocking by remote!)

I know this is going to be too simple for most people to follow, but take my word for it, I've seen this a hundred times before...

GO AROUND TO THE PASSENGER DOOR AND TRY YOUR KEY THERE!
Drives side door lock switch has been worked to death, go use the passenger side with the key, see if that works...
(usually does)

#2. Go to dealership and get new remote if this one isn't working.

They usually aren't cheap, but they are cheaper than having the drivers door gutted to put the new alarm/lock switch in...

Need to check your owners manual. My neighbor’s Kia did the same thing. His battery went dead which triggered an anti-theft protection. The alarm kept going off. Key in the ignition to start, starter would not engage.

The procedure on his was to wait until the alarm quit and then punch a button on the remote three times. I think it was the door unlock button but not sure.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world.
Those who understand binary and those who don't.
