Post factory amplifier capability

The nasty blown center console sub in my 2001 SE was excruciating; so i pulled it out this weekedn and found a nasty paper sub, torn all around. I think I have found a cheap option and another one which is a bit more. Question is: What is the capability of the stock amp? What will it drive? What are its limits?
I bet most rip out the stock amplifier right?

Wow! Rip-off!

So i called a local Jeep parts dept and the replacemnet factopry sub is $394....really! How about that, that's just daylight robbery. Can't cost them 25% of that wholesale. Rip off. They wouldn't give me the specs either so I could find a cheapy online.

Aren't the specs printed somewhere on the original speaker? The only thing you need are watts and ohms, right? Ohms are easy to measure, and watts can't be that tough to figure out - the current capacity will be proportional to the size of the wire feeding it.

EVERYTHING's easy for the guy who doesn't have to do it.
