Gauges not working

I have 88 Jeep YJ with the 2.5. When I bought it the speedo worked & the temp gauge did not I replaced the temp sensor and the gauge started to work. Now neither of the gauges work. I have checked all of the fuses checked to make sure the temp sensor was still plugged in and it is. It just seemed strange to me that both gauges stopped working at the same time. Any ideas?

Thanks

Is your Jeep rusty? (Silly question ) Rust causes a lot of electrical ground connection problems. Try running a temporary wire from the ground terminal of the battery to the instrument cluster. If things work then, you have ground problems.

EVERYTHING's easy for the guy who doesn't have to do it.

Is the speedo mechanical on an 88 2.5? I know it is on my 88 4.2

If it's mechanical and it doesn't work, it's not an electrical problem.

Good luck,
Pete

88YJ: Old, noisy, slow, and just generally wonderful. Wheeling Jeep.
04WJ: Less old, less noisy, less slow, daily driver Jeep.
