91 YJ, HO with air conditioning. How do I get the duct assembly that contains the core out from under the dash? Do I need to remove the dash? Or do I discharge and remove the A/C lines from under the assembly that connect into the dash? I don't want to make more work for my self than I need to.
On a CJ there are 4 - 1/2" nuts on the firewall in the engine compartment. One near the center and 3 around the battery area. Take them off and the heater unit comes out from under the dash. (Remove heater hoses and wire from the heater motor first) You also have to disconnect the heater control cables from under the dash.
Not sure if the square headlight Jeeps are the same.

Thanks, but I also have (2) rigid charged air conditioning lines that pass through the firewall, under the duct assembly, and connect into something in the dash. How do I get the assembly past the A/C Lines? I have disconnected the nuts on the firewall, defrost duct assy, htr control cables, and blower motor wiring.
the cj's air conditioner unit just bolts to the bottom on the dash on the front. if the yj does too, just take out the three or four screws and drop the air conditioner to the floor. on a cj it helps to remove the passenger side seat.
