Question Wheel question

What was the original size of the lug pattern on my 73 CJ5? the wheels that are on there now measure 5 on 5.25. I was told it was supposed to 5 on 5.5. which is correct? I need to purchase one for a spare and mostly wanted to make sure I was measuring mine correctly. center to center from one lug across the wheel to another diagonally. right?

are you sure you measured correctly?

the 5.5" is the diameter of the circle..... measuring from bolt to bolt wont give you the true diameter.

it should be 5x5.5" like you said....and i'm guessing thats what you have on now

That was a very helpful diagram. I do have 5 on 5.5 lugs.
Thanks again,

So if somebody says he has a set of wheels that are 5X 5.25 center to center, they are probably 5 X5.50 with this measurment. correct?

Yes. If the distance between the two most-distant bolt holes on a 5-lug wheel is 5.231", then the bolt circle is 5.5". And most people wouldn't be able to tell that their measurement is 0.019" off.

EVERYTHING's easy for the guy who doesn't have to do it.
