DUI distributor

Hi, I've been searching for any post on HEI wiring and cant find anything on the proper wiring for a DUI distributor. I know that I drop the ballast resistor, but now what do I do with those old wires? just tape them up? The new distributor is a one wire hook up. so that wont be that hard to figure out.

Does anyone have a diagram?

Not sure of the wire on your CJ5....on a CJ7 with the Duraspark ign, it's the big red wire with white stripe that did go to the Duraspark module....

Basically, you just want the one ignition wire (hot only in the on and crank pos). That goes straight to the HEI. Everything else gets taped off.

To give you an idea how easy it is.....you can hook a hot wire from the battery to the dist....crank the engine over and it should start right up.....to shut it off, remove the wire.

Yep, that's all you need is one wire coming from your ignition. I used the one that hooked to the resistor and ran to the DUI and the rest are just taped up not being used...

rather than just taping them off... can you trace it back and remove it completely... i want to get rid of all the useless wires and crap from all my vac switches that arent being used as well... make it easier if i ever have to do trouble shooting... any one done this?

Yes, but it won't really buy you anything but satisfaction. I'd recommend identifying them some way and then taping them off. You never know what they might be good for in the future.

EVERYTHING's easy for the guy who doesn't have to do it.

On my HEI equipped CJ... I gutted the loom, removing everything I could get rid of... KISS... the less wire, the less vacuum tubing, the less to break down. I like that. I really like the one power wire to run the HEI, and another from the HEI to the fuel injection to pulse the injectors. It's elegant and downright simple.

I removed everything I didn't use.... But, I left a few inches of wire prior to where they terminate, just in case. Say they go back through the firwall and into the cab. I left enough to tell the color and splice back into if necesary. I also rolled eveything I cut out up and cramed the it into as small of a box as possible, labled it and stuck it up high.... again, just in case.

Maybe not so much for future use (a 2nd Jeep could always happen), but if someone needs a resistor wire or one of those funky ends for the Duraspark ign down the road, I can help them out.

Is this the only hammer you've got?
