HOw to install oil pressure unit

after watching my oil pressure gauge in my 88 wrangler with the 4.2 i final went to the store and got a new oil pressure sending unit, now it only moves between 40 at idle, and 65 when driving, from what everone is saying it should be from 20at idle and 40 when driving, i noticed that the unit has alot more treads on the screw part that goes into the engine block, as i supposed to screw it in until all its almost all the way in or is there a certain spot that i should only let it go down into? can i put it in too far, or have it out to much where it doesn't work right thanks

Re: HOw to install oil pressure unit

When I replaced the op sender in my cj
at pep boys they gave me one that had
much more thread, screwed in about 2/3
of the way and didn't work.
So I took the original in and they matched
it to a photograph, presto!
Good Luck,

Re: HOw to install oil pressure unit

Mr. Wrangler 88, as you know the op unit has the bell part and another appendage with a wire connector on top. Today I broke this off. Where did you get your new unit and for how much $$$? Does it come with the whole unit and the metal block that goes into the engine or just the bell??

well i bought mine at murrrys auto parts, it was $19.99 and its just one piece u don't get the metal block that does into the engine, the bell screws itself into a spot on the engine block, if u broke that piece off i don't know what to say?
