OT: Web page design software.

What is a good free (or cheap) program to design a web page?

Netscape had one called 'Composer', but I didn't use it.
I just knew it was free and came with some of the versions of Netscape.

It depends on your level of html knowledge. If you know html code, then all you need is notepad and an FTP software, which there are bunches of free versions on the web. If you do not know anything about html code, then you might want to start with a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) program like Frontpage or Dreamweaver, although I don't think either one are cheap. Front page will run you at least $100 or more and Dreamweaver is somewhere around the $200 mark...I only got it because it was free from my cousin.

I use Dreamweaver MX because I can do my own coding and see how it looks as I go along. Also, if I can't remember how to do a certain thing with the code, it will do it for me, so it is the best of both worlds...to me anyway.

Not that I encourage it, but I think you can also get these programs through some P2P networks...

Hope some of that helped.

i think you can make web pages in MS word if you are looking for really basic stuff (pictures and fonts)

otherwise frontpage is what i use when i need to do that kinda stuff.

you could check out Mozilla's SeaMonkey......i havent used it but it does contain some web development stuff.....and its FREE!

I have used the Netscape Composer for most of my personal web page work. It was included up through version 7, but doesn't seem to be in version 8. It is free, and simple to use.

Try out :

Arachnophodia 5.3

  • It's feature rich,
  • simple to use
  • and works... and above all..
  • It's free

I use it to make up the Jeep Creep column. Simple is good.
