Home made half doors

Has anyone made their own set of half doors?

I have a set of full door but really want a set of half doors. My Jeep no longer is ever run with a top, don't even have one for that matter so the full doors are kind of a PITA.

I also like to wheel with the doors on for some odd reason.

Am I making more work for myself than I should? Seems like it sould be pretty easy except for the latch assembly, but I figure I could find that off a couple of damaged doors.

Any comments?

I did a design in bend tech and it was simple, I am going to try and do another as the computer crash got my old one. The frame is made of 1" hrew and I was using a latch from Mcmaster carr. It was an inside the door latch,, no need in letting anything hang out.

I was using the factory hinge point like safari doors. They looked great but I never built them,,, So I basicly have no Idea if they would work or not.

Ya only go around once, best to enjoy it the first trip.

If your looking for solid half doors and don't mind using your full doors as a donor I think it can be done. Check around with the XJ guys, I've seen a few of the XJs with the full hard door chopped down to a really nice half door. Check out this link from NAXJA. You could cut out the window frames as well and just have a simple half door.

Jeff,

Do you know the latch part #???

I think I would build one out of tube and 1/8" plate before chopping my full doors up, or just trade full doors for 1/2 doors if anyone was interested.
