oil pump gasket

I was wondering if you're supposed to use rtv when putting this back together, or if it goes together dry? It's for an amc 304. I was about to use some, but I get the impression from the manuals it doesn't need it, and I don't want to plug something up. thanks.

thanks, I was afraid of leaks, but neither manual mentions using anything, so I guess dry it is.

Don't use gasket sealer on the baseplate, it will screw up your oil pump 'gear' clearance.

You *DID* check the gear clearance with 'Plasti-Gauge'...
Didn't you?

umm, no. the only reason I took the pump off was because of a broken bolt in the cover. I was going to swap it onto another cover, but murphys law being what it is, I broke a bolt off in that cover also. someone removed the bolts for me, so I packed it with petroleum jelly and put it back on the original one.
