axle breakage update

Well as the guys from the bash know, i broke an axle this weekend. I didnt bring a spare so, i only got to wheel for about two hours. Well it was a good thing i didnt have a spare, and it was a better thing that i couldnt find a used one, cause it would have been a waste of money.

Not only did it break the axle, it blew the detroit apart. I dont think it hurt the detroit guts. But where the bearing is pressed onto is gone, the bearing is gone i mean gone, just needles laying in the housing, and the adjuster is actually twisted into a much smaller piece.

I will post the pics up tomorrow, it to late now to start a download on dial up.

So the game plan is, put my ring gear on a open carrier, put it back together for the summer, be able to drive it on the street and local two track trails.

After the baby is hear and things calm down a bit, i will start building the new and improved rear.

What????

Good thing we didn't pull the thing apart at the Bash....though I would have liked to have seen what those guts looked like.......

So....are you going to rebuild that one or build up a new axle?

What makes me wonder is what gave first.....what you were doing was not all that rough.....makes me wonder if my AMC 20 could handle it.....

Bummer, kind of a chicken/egg thing. I have several 28 spline axles if you need one; have to check lengths

What kind of detroit?
we have a few here that have blown apart guts

It's not what you have. It's what you do with what you have

I was just getting ready to post something similar...
I don't have detroit parts, but I have some axles lying around, what do you need for parts...?
