FORD engines ?

Hi Guys

it has been a while since my last post !
because i have been divorced from the wife since last.
(bad thing )

but now jeep project has gotten more time (good thing)

i have been looking for good engine/autotransmission transplants to relive the old 304 / tf999 of its duty.

first i was looking for the 4,7 jeep engine and then chevy 4,8 vortec in the US , but now i have found a Ford Econoline 250 "V8 EFI somthing", that only has 50.000 miles and all service ! and it looks like i can have the hole van for nothing.

since i live in denmark on the other side of the atlantic ocean it would be easyer with a complete car to transplant from !

it this a good swap and can it be done ?? does any one know where to see what kind of engine and trans is in a econoline

thanks for the help

Kasper

i would check the length of the trans.....

it might be too long for the short wheelbase of a cj7......i think that would be the biggest issue.

Actually, the ford v8 is about 2-3" shorter than the chevy engine....and with the dist in the front, you have a bit more room to move the engine around.

As for trannys, I don't think you will have a length problem. When I did my SBC swap into my CJ, I had to shorten my read ds by 3"....but with a CV ds, I do not have any driveline vibrations.

Go to the Novak web site...they have some great info on these swaps along with the adapter you need....FYI...it was the adapter that required me to shorten the ds....I could have used a xfer case that would fit the GM 4L60E, but I wanted to keep my D300....which I'm sure you want to do as well.

I can't imagine the v8 block for passenger cars being any different for the Van....

The 5.7L SBC in my jeep came out of a truck...the biggest difference was lack of air pump and it came with oil cooling...both pluses....

If anything, the van engine will just be more heavy duty...which is basically what you want.

I'm doing some searching online and have found some possibilities:

(VIN - H) = 5.8L 351W
(VIN - N) = 5.0L 302
(VIN - G) = 7.5L 460

Hope that helps some. I looked under a parts wholesaler for replacement engines for a 1996 Econoline 250 van. I know that might not be the specific year, but if it isn't, you could always do the same thing for the proper year once you attain it. I would imagine it came with the E40D transmission as well. But that is just a guess.

Good luck!

85 CJ7 lifelong project...
