what shocks for the 8.8 upgrade
Any recommendations for shocks? Hydro or nitro-gas are a couple of options from skyjacker.

What don't you like about the stock ones? How will the Jeep be used?

Rancho RS9000's. That way you'll never had to wonder what it would be like to have stiffer or softer shocks. Personally, I think unless you are desert racing, there is too much made of the importance of shocks. You need em, but I don't think you need anything exotic.

The jeep will be a daily driver with weekend offroading. Mainly mountain trails, rocky hills etc with a few trips to southern Utah deserts. He needs new shocks in part because one of his was destroyed when a mount broke. We just want a good reliable, long lasting replacement. Thanks.

Sounds like you need stock unts, either OEM or a name-brand replacement for stock. Monroe or Gabriel would be my choice.

Ditto on the stock shocks....

BUT...before you go out and buy...get everything installed except the shocks...then measure from bolt to bolt....then buy your shocks based on actual basically want a shock that will give you about an equal amount of extension and compression. If you have a way of lifting the back you could lift it off the ground and see how far the axle drops...that would be your max extension....

FYI....shock lengths are kinda funny....when I put on new shocks for my SOA, just going 1/2" longer bumped me into a different range which ended up giving me 3" additional inches of travel.
