1)trans. i have the ba-10, will a ax15 just bolt in its place? or is there no such thing as a bolt in replacement?
2)4lo works but 4hi dont?! i replaced switch on the transfer case, but nothing happened. will the actuator on the front axle d30 cause this?

I'll answer here too because I want someone to talk to . If you can find an 89 or 90 AX15 with the shifter, it is a direct bolt in except for the skid plate holes. I had to redrill new holes to match the AX tranny mount.
If 4 Hi doesn't work, it's something in the transfer case. The front actuator only engages and disengages the axle. The switch on the tcase only operates the front axle and 4wd light on the dash. The transfer case is pretty easy to open and repair if you have a little mechanical ability. I should know, because I have a VERY tiny amount of mechanical ability and managed to rebuild the tcase and AX15 by listening to those here and on other forums who actually knew what they were saying.

I drilled new holes in the skid plate. I also used a dremel tool to make them slotted instead of just round holes. That gave me a little more wiggle room in case I measured wrong. Glad I did that.

One thing I forgot since I didn't use the internal clutch slave. When I was starting this, I did find out that the internal clutch slave cylinder is different for the AX15 than it is in the BA. You can get one for a 90 model to make sure it's the right one if you are staying with that setup.
