TH-400 Transmission Therapy...

Trying to beat a TH-400 into submission again.
This is the third one this season already.

Seems like they all used the same type of seals in the transmission...
Don't know where they come from, all three (and several over the last two years) are using the same seal kits, but being built by several different people.

The seals on the snout of the center support are giving up, especially the center two.
These are the wrap around (not hook type) seals, supposed to be made of Teflon, but don't feel like Teflon when you handle them.
When they go, reverse and 3 gear (drive) give up.
All the bad seals I see are the same odd color...
Not quite factory color, or texture of factory seals.
I've not been able to nail down the supplier that is handling the batch of problem seals, so buyer beware...

This problem has only been cropping up in the past two years, so if you are going to have a TH-400 rebuilt, you may want to have your rebuilder pay particular attention to the snout seals on the center support...

JYG, Have you tried going to a GM dealer and ordering their application for that seal. When I worked at the local GMC dealership we occasionally had customers come in asking for small internals. I think it would probably depend more on how bad the employee wants to look it up than on actual availability. Might be worth checking.

Is this the only hammer you've got?

I'm not having a problem with the aftermarket ones I'm using, it's someone elses work I'm fixing...
And the ones I've had in here are/were built by reputable builders.
I think there is an aftermarket bulk supplier somewhere what is getting 'China' seals and throwing them in the kits...

It's not my trans parts supplier, because I've not seen any of these odd colored/shaped seals in my rebuild kits...
But I only deal with two suppliers nearly exclusively...
