? on flat towing a TJ

Just installed my tow bar and drug my tj around town. (had to look odd, an 80 cj towing a 99 tj...lol)
Anyway, I put the transmission in gear per the owners manual, and the Transfer in neutral. Ive been told to put the jeep in 5th and bungy so it wont bounce out of gear (not sure why but ok)
Now the question, How do I keep the transfer case in neutral? it seem that keeping that in neutral should be more important than the tranny?
Thanks

I flat towed my TJ for YEARS before I finally bit the bullet and turned it into a trailer queen. Tranny in 1st, t-case in N. It never popped out of neutral, ever. It would take a pretty big hit to get that to move, and if that happens you probably have bigger problems than the t-case spontaneously shifting.

Look at it this way.....

Has it ever popped out of gear while you were driving it? If not, then it probably won't pop out of gear while you are towing it.

The reason to put the tranny in gear is to eliminate parasitic drag on the output shaft of the transmission, which will burn up the tranny output bearing pretty quick.

"And then I said, 'Just like that, but with more gas!' Oops..."
