flex plate problem 89 yj need help A.S.A.P

I just came across this problem, in my 89. I converted it from the puegot 5spd to an auto tran's out of 87 wrangler. Now my problem is, is that the flex plate seem's to be to far away from the starter, the starter gear won't hit the flex plate. The flex plate has the little wear mark's from the torque converter's mounting block's, so that's how i put it back together. On the other side of the flex plate you can see wear the bolt head's were. I called the auto part's store to see if there was a difference in the 5spd and auto starter's and they said no. Do i pull the tran's back and try to flip the plate over? It look's like it might clear but i'm not to sure. Has anybody had this problem? I need help A.S.A.P thx

Did you use the flexplate from the TF999? I don't remember there being any shims or spacers...I'll crall under my 88 later this AM and take some measurements.

A bad weekend of wheelin', is still a good weekend.
