Why is it that after you get stuck everyone helps you out then tries to make it though the same spot???

When I'm not snorkled I run a Mr. Gasket 9" chrome filter from any of the chain parts stores. Plenty of room.

Is this the only hammer you've got?

thats what i originally started out with, the mr gasket 9" filter.
doesnt even come close to fitting with the yj brake booster and m/c.

i found a mr gasket 6 1/2" filter, just barely clears the booster by less than 1/2"

new problem though, the jeep stops very quickly now, its already an improvement, but the pedal is pretty mushy. i've bled the brakes quite a few times and there is no imrovement.
i've read on other posts that shortening the push rod helps with this, but i dont really understand why shortening the rod will help with a mushy pedal.
so is this true?
