No tire chains on a Sahara?

So I'm reading the owners manual for my '99 Sahara and it says:
"Install chains on rear tires only. Tire chains my be installed on all models except Sahara."

Of course, there is no explaination as to why they exclude the Sahara. Anyone? Why shouldn't I put tire chains on my Sahara?

Thanks,

A loose chain could crack the paint on your flares.

Re: No tire chains on a Sahara?

It could be that the flares are a little bigger and hang over the tires more?????

I usually think the sarah, sport, se, x, ect. thing is retarted and this just goes to prove it. It's a TJ or a wrangler, they are all pretty much the same, only real differances are I4- vs I6, auto vs. manual, d35 vs 44, and the all mighty rubicon with a different t-case, glorified d30 front and air lockers.

Why don't you call a few dealers and ask? The answers might be pretty funny.

No, I believe you could get ABS on a Sport if it didn't have the Dana 44.

Re: No tire chains on a Sahara?

I sent an email to Jeep. My guess is it has to do with the fender flares.
