****er handle removal ,AX5 and NP 231

How do you get the shifter handle or lever apart? I need them apart right in the middle. If any one has done this before thye will know what i'm talking about. They are held together by some kind of clip. The transfer shifter looks like it has a clip you have to squeeze together to puul it off, but the tranny shifter I see nothing. Any ideas would help pics would be better. My haynes only shows a blown up veiw, where ther are already apart. It also shows how to remove the shifter from the casing but i don't want to do that. Thanks

I'm not quite sure what your attempting to do. What are you trying to accomplish by disassembling these pcs.
