Strange problem with superwinch hubs... locks

First a little background on my jeep. It has a quadratrac transfer case, lockrights front and rear and lockout hubs on the front. Most of the time on the street, I have the transfer case locked and the front hubs in 4x2. One of my front hubs has started to lock internally when the dial is set to 4x2. If I stop, unlock the transfer case differential and put the transmission in reverse, it will unlock for a short time and then lock again. This is very annoying since it is putting me in 3wd and causing the front to pull slightly. Any ideas?

Sounds like the hub is getting dirty/sticky inside.
Take it apart and clean it. The little rollers inside are gummy.

Instructions in the original manual caution not to use wheel bearing grease in them, and not to over-lube them.

Re: Strange problem with superwinch hubs... locks

Will im not sure what the superwinch hubs look like inside or how they work. My warn hubs on my truck, are the old quater turn hubs. The piece you turn is plastic and wore out letting the hub try to lock. I had a click click click sound in forward that drove me nuts, in reverse no sound. I spun the wheel last weekend before i put brakes on the truck. Thats when i found it. I changed the platic knob and it now pushes the locking rig far enough away.

You may have somewhat the same problem. There may just be something worn out letting it lock just enough. Then in reverse it will unlock.

Over lubing might be the problem then. It is nice and clean inside, no grease, just oil. I think it turns too freely. I'll try spraying out some of the oil.
