Flex Plate, Harmonic Ballancer, and crank

Buick 455;

Does a harmonic ballancer and flex plate need to stay with the original crank?

I noticed some weights on my flexplates, are they helping ballance the crank/engine?

Re: Flex Plate, Harmonic Ballancer, and crank

They are "type" balanced.
Meaning they are supposed to be "off the shelf" items.
So as long as they are for the same engine they can be replaced.

The problem comes to play when parts for different engines are mixed together. Or, if the set you have has been re-done - "critically balanced" together - then they are a "matched set.
