Re: Child seat question...4 yr old going off-road
Laws vary a little from state to state, but it's obvious that you want more than what the law requires...that makes you a good dad in my book....add in the fact that you want your son with you bumps you up even more notches....
The key is the 5 point harness AND how the seat attaches to the existing seat. At 4 years old he is most likely in a booster seat. The primary purpose of these seats is to bring the child up high enough so that the existing seat belts are on his body in the right spots. Legally, this would be 'ok'.
I'm with you in wanting the 5 point....If the Jr Dragster has a separate strap that allows you to attach the seat to a hard point on the body, then that is the way to go.
Basically, you want the seat to keep him in the seat and the seat stay attached to the jeep in the event you end upside down or on your side.
If you are going to put him in the back, I would suggest attaching the seat in the middle so that his little arm don't reach outside the cage.
Right now I'm looking for some approved bucket seats that I can mount in the back of my CJ...in other words, toss the stock seat and bolt in two small bucket seats for my boys that are 3 and 4 1/2....and are already about 45lbs each.
