OT heater on DD

Hi

So I drive a 2000 Dakota with the 5.9

Lately (past couple months) I've notice on longer trips of 20+ miles the temp gauge SLOWLY climbs to about the 210 mark...then falls rapidly to 130...then slowly climbs to 210 then falls to 130 and so on...usually takes about 10 miles to get to 210 and start the roller coaster...then takes another 5-7 miles of roller coastering before it levels off around 180 or 190 or so...

Of course during the roller coaster with the heat on...the fan blows hot air when the temp gause is falling and cold air when the temp gauge is climbing (that actually makes sense to me as why)...

I just noticed it...might have been happening ever since I've had it...I'm not positive...although I'm pretty sure it's a recent thing.

Anywho...this seems normal? abnormal?

I do have a "ram air" hood on it if that would make any difference...

Thanks for any feedback.
Patrick

There's a problem alright. How is the coolant level?

Re: OT heater on DD

Seems like a sticking thermostat, assuming the water lever is good. Could possibly be a lower hose that's collapsing, but that's far fetched.
