Picking up an Engine in Hollister, NC tomorrow
1973 Buick 455 complete except for the carb
The guy says it will run, but who knows.
(FYI my current 455 has a rod through the block)
I don't want to build it if I don't have to. I have a line on another one that would be great to put on a stand and go through, and I don't have the funds to do that right now....
What would you do to this engine before you installed it?
Hook up a starter and check compression?
Hook up an oil guage and check pressure?
Would you strip the new: water pump, oil pump, timing chain/ gears, HEI system off of the currently blown engine and install them on the "unknown" engine?
Would you pull the heads and take a look.
I know I have good heads on my blown engine, should I swap um right off the bat. Or wait and see what the "unknown" ones do?
or- would you just slap it in there, hook up the FI, and turn the key? (anything living in there should find it's way out the flowmasters....)
