another differential question on 95 Wrangler

I posted a few days ago about my son's rear differential being totally shot. I'm still trying to track down some cheaper parts and we are considering doing the ford 8.8 conversion. We also happen to have a complete front differential using up floor space in the shop. Are the internals the same ie could we use the front to rebuild the rear? TIA

I just hate those 4 letter words. Looks like the explorer 8.8 might be our best option

Re: another differential question on 95 Wrangler

I didn’t read the first post but, I had a bad rear end in my 94 YJ this summer. Found a working used one on Craig’s List for $75. Bolted it in a few hours, rebuilt the brakes with the best of the parts from the two axels, and was done.

Re: another differential question on 95 Wrangler

I also had not read your original post but I have to tell you, if your son is not running big tires the D35 will hold up just fine. I'm running a 32inch tire and I honestly believe the only reason I've had to rebuild mine is because my right foot is stupid. To rebuild it yourself is not that bad of a job. There are some tricks I picked up doing thes twice. You can find used R&P for well under $100 if you watch ebay you could also check Wabash Jeep in Wabash Indiana I'll look for their phone number if you like. Install kits at most are $120-150. As far as shims and what not go here's the trick on the gear end of the pinion gear there is a number etched into it a,-1,-2,-3 or a +1, +2, +3. The way it was explained to me is as long as your within one number either way your current shimming should work. As far as pattern goes after you have replace you bearings, R&P, crush sleeve, get some presion blue paint some on and check your pattern, you should still be able to see what your pattern should look like at www.ringpinion.com. They had install instructions on there some time ago probably either call them or search the archives. Realistically your first time checking and double checking and triple checking everything you can get it done in a day. Hope this helped.
