Re: what do you carry in you jeep?

I just depend on my well-prepared friends

actually, I DON"T ever wheel alone, so I take different things thn my wheeling buddies to help us all.
1.a set of BIG wrenches and BIG sockets
2. a 6 pound sledge
3. hacksaw, set of vice grips, flaring tool, grease, oil filter, front brake line, rear brake line, fully assembled ARB line with both ends on it, a pitman arm, and a set of jumper cables with some weld rod.
4. I bring a case of bottled water.
5. I have a set of nuts, bolts, washers, all sorts of hardware very organized in tackle boxes that come with.

Re: what do you carry in you jeep?

Why bottled water? If I needed to carry drinking water it would be in one of those square poly 3- or 5-gallon jugs. They're tougher than dirt, take up a lot less room than the same quantity of bottled water, and can be collapsed as the water is consumed.

Re: what do you carry in you jeep?

True - but -
Small bottles can be stuffed in anywhere, utilizing otherwise dead spaces.
Small bottles are easier to carry on a short hike - or in case you had to walk out.
A hole in one only loses a little bit.
Since they are sealed, no problem with algae, or sour water.
They don't taste like a garden or gas station hose.
You can reach back while driving and get a drink.

They are great to freeze - use instead of ice. When they melt you have ice-water instead of a mess. And you don't have water sloshing and splashing out of the ice chest onto your sleeping bags.

And - they came in very handy once when we broke a t-case output shaft on the Rubicon Trail. We caught the oil in the empty bottles while we took the t-case apart (YJ) and installed a new shaft and converted it to a SYE! - talk about a trail fix!

Plus you can hide your gold nuggets gold dust in them.

I personally carry a Sig P220 between the seat and the console. A lot easier to get to.

hopefully you both take those out with you when you leave the jeep unattended

on this board we've heard of even the tuffest security consols pried open...i'd hate to have two fine firearms in the hands of low-lifes

Re: what do you carry in you jeep?

I'm pretty confident in my lock box. I built it myself, it's mounted under the driver's seat. All 1/8" plate, 1/4" recessed door with angle reinforcement, 2 3/8" sliding internal deadbolts on a spring loaded tube lock which toggles so if the lock is forced the box still stays locked.

Re: what do you carry in you jeep?

When I leave the Jeep, the Sig goes with me. It also has a baby brother, a P226. Sometimes they both get to go.
Randy, please send some plans to Leve. I would really like to add a box like yours to my CJ.
Thanks
Dave
